Week 3 Part A: What makes a good website?

Needs some improvement.

The websites are pennyjuice.com and roverp6cars.com, although they did a great job when it comes to creating a physical site there was a couple of things that could be improved. A lot of different aspects go into a good website; however, these sites failed to deliver their customers exceptional contrast, alignment and hierarchy.

Contrast is important in a website because it will guide customers and visitors eyes through your website. PennyJuice needs to improve their contrast because they use a lot of different colors and your eyes do not quite know what to look at. Roverp6Cars also needs to improve contrast when creating their site because the font color and background image for their navigation was not compatible.

Contrast was not the only thing that could use improvement in their website, they also needed to worry about their alignment. PennyJuice did a good job about alignment when it came to their information; however, they did not keep this same thinking throughout the site. When you click on their learn more button (any of them they all take you to the same place) on the right side there are boxes that do not match the consistency they were having through the site. Roverp6Cars could improve their alignment by also keeping the same alignment through the whole site. When you look at the parts that they specialize in the middle they all have the centered alignment, a left alignment would have made it look more professional.

Lastly, these sites should have improved their hierarchy when creating their site, if not for themselves but for their customers. PennyJuice could improve their hierarchy by learning how to draw your eye through the information they present in front of you. With all the colors in the site your eye does not know when to go to first, making it hard for you to know where to start. The eye does not know where to start instead you are drawn all over the place. Roverp6Cars failed hierarchy by not putting thought into what customers needed to see right at the beginning of their website.

If these website improved that then they would look more professional. Although both sites have decent information and know what they want customers to buy their lack in thinking of improvements makes both sites seem less professional. I do not doubt they know what they are talking about i just feel they are not as professional as other sites.

How it should be done.

On the opposite side of the spectrum I believe apple.com and toyota.com did much better, not only creating a website but also making good choices on alignment and ease of use for their customers.

The alignment in both these sites is an improvement from what we saw in the past two websites. Apple chose to have all the bottom links be aligned making it look more professional compared to the other sites. Toyota also used alignment in the description of their vehicles it is all left faced making it look organized.

Both these sites also did well when it came to ease of use. All the buttons take you to the correct information you are looking for compared to the when we saw PennyJuice had 4 buttons that all took you to the same place.
